Boards & Commissions

Outside front of City Hall

Citizen participation is an important part of city government. Your City Government needs your support and advice in its continuing efforts toward responsive local government. Participation on City Boards, Commissions, and Committees is the major way you can contribute.

The City's Boards and Commission are charged with important work that can heavily impact residents. It is important that nominations are made based on a genuine desire to serve the residents and help make it a better place to live. Some boards and commissions are very technical and require members to be able to read and/or interpret regulations or laws. In every case, candidates must be able to function as a group in an open meeting forum while demonstrating respect for the citizens who attend meetings.

Persons wishing to be considered for appointment to a board or commission must submit a completed Board and Commission Application to Deputy City Manager Robin Troyer. Depending on the particular board, appointments are made by the City Commission, by the Mayor with the concurrence of the Commission, or by the City Manager with the concurrence of the Commission. The length of the appointment term varies by board; some members maybe appointed for a shorter time to fill a vacant unexpired term.

Board, Commission, and Committee duties are specified by the City Commission, ordinance, or by resolution. All members of Boards, Committees, and Commissions are limited to City residents.
