While the City of Sault Ste. Marie does not have a standalone Human Resources Department, all HR functions are managed by the Deputy City Manager. This includes employee recruitment, benefits administration, labor relations, and ensuring compliance with employment policies.

Roles & Responsibilities

The Deputy City Manager, in their HR role, is responsible for:

✅ Developing and managing employee benefit programs

✅ Coordinating recruitment, hiring, and onboarding

✅ Administering employee benefits 

✅ Participates in labor negotiations and maintains labor agreements

✅ Ensuring compliance with labor contracts and employment policies

✅ Participates the City in grievance and arbitration proceedings
