Transportation Permits
On December 12, 2022, the City of Sault Ste. Marie changed the way we process our transportation permits (individual transport, seasonal transport and annual oversize transportation program).
We are now using an online-based permitting system via the web at Oxcart Permit System and will no longer process transportation related permits in person or via pdfs.
Any entity wanting to apply for an overweight/oversize permit for Sault Ste. Marie roads must use the Oxcart permitting software.
Registration is easy and can be completed on the Oxcart website under the "Applicant" sign-up link: Oxcart Permit System.
Once registered, companies will be able to reap the following benefits via Oxcart:
- Access a simple to use online interface for requesting local permits.
- Paperless permits downloadable to your computer or any mobile device.
- Eliminate tedious paper processes, emailing and scanning.
- Speed the process of permit approvals.
- Feature an online, interactive mapping solution to assist in route selection.
- Online permit approvals pushed to your email inbox.
- Save applicant’s fleet information for faster application submittal
- Provide an easy, online payment system (Credit card only – see below)
How to pay for Transportation permits:
Transportation permits can be paid on the Oxcart website: Oxcart Permit System
In addition to the Chippewa County Road Commission permitting fee, Oxcart will require a nominal processing fee for each transportation permit. Oxcart will also apply a credit card fee for each permit processed. Applicants will pre-approve their cards for the Oxcart processing fee at the time of application and be charged at the time of approval.
