TITLE:  SUMMER - SEASONAL PARKS ATTENDANT

DEPARTMENT:  PARKS AND RECREATION

LOCATION:  VARIOUS PARKS

PHYSICAL CLASSIFICATION: LIGHT /MODERATE

WAGE CLASS:  NON-EXEMPT, SEASONAL

HOURLY RATES:  $13.73 - $14.50 PER HOUR

SEASON:  MAY15TH THROUGH OCTOBER 15TH

Mission Statement:

Park Assignments: George Kemp Marina, Aune Osborn Campground, Riverside Cemetery, Malcolm Park Ballfields, Beautification, and Historic Homes. 

Job Description:

Job duties will vary by Park Assignment. Under the direction of the supervisor, staff may be responsible for maintaining operations, providing customer service, monitoring computer reservation systems, performing maintenance activities, and reporting any issues.

  • Maintaining grounds utilizing best practices of mowing and line trimming.
  • General cleaning of all buildings and dumping trash.
  • Work special weekends and summer holidays as needed.
  • Manage phones, computer reservations, and emails.
  • Manage money handling and use general office equipment.
  • Pruning shrubs, trim trees, and planting flowers.
  • Attending the fuel dock, pumping fuel, performing sewage pump outs.
  • Performing maintenance procedures on the docks and piers.
  • Assisting boaters in line-handling capacity when they arrive and/or depart.
  • Maintain various records and reports associated with Marina daily operations.
  • Direct boaters to their slips as they are assigned by the Harbormaster.
  • Performing various duties of digging utilizing shovel, pick or other tools.
  • Assisting in mixing, pouring, and setting concrete for grave markers.
  • Performing general maintenance on the tools and machinery daily.

General Requirements:

The Summer Seasonal Attendant must:

  • Be able to legally work in the United States.

  • Reside within 20 miles of the nearest boundary of Sault Ste. Marie, MI within thirty days of their employment. 

  • Satisfactorily pass a background investigation.

  • Possess good written and verbal communications skills. 

  • Be able to stand, crawl, bend, twist, climb.

Performance Requirements:

  • Work after hours and on weekends as required.
  • Be able to respond quickly to needs as they arise.
  • Think creatively and problem solve.
  • Act as an ambassador on behalf of the City of Sault Sainte Marie by engaging in positive interaction with residents, tourists, and employees daily, in a courteous manner always. Report concerns and complaints to the supervisor.
  • Readily engage in manual labor, including cleaning restrooms, stocking supplies, lifting, and carrying equipment, empty trash and remove animal litter, and dress appropriately for the weather.  Must meet the physical demands of the job.
  • Engage in physically strenuous labor including standing, sitting, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, crawling, communicating in person, by phone or radio, using manual dexterity to write, type and use tools or equipment; using sight and mobility to inspect and maintain work sites and perform necessary related work; and the strength, mobility, and dexterity to operate equipment, lift or move items of heavy weight, or access work sites.
  • Be aware of and abide by all applicable safety regulations.
  • Implement and follow the provisions of the Citizen Service Philosophy.
