Become an Election Worker

Election workers are people who are paid to assist voters and count ballots on Election Day. Duties include checking voter registration, issuing ballots, maintaining precinct records, and lending support to residents throughout the voting process.  Election Inspectors work from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM and are paid $15.00/hour.  Half day shifts are available if needed. Election workers cannot be be a challenger, candidate, member of a candidate’s immediate family, or a member of the local Board of Canvassers. Anyone convicted of a felony or an election crime may not serve as an election worker.

If you are interested in becoming an election worker for the City of Sault Ste. Marie, please complete and submit the Election Inspector Application to our office.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen
  • You must be at least 16 years old
  • You cannot have any felony convictions on your record
  • You must be able to interact with the public in a friendly, professional manner
  • You must be available to attend at least one training class

Expect notification about 40 days prior to an election to see if you are available to work that election.
