Tier II Reporting in the City of Sault Ste. Marie

As you may know, each Tier II site (business / location storing, using, manufacturing hazardous materials) is required to provide an annual report to the Chippewa County LEPC (Local Emergency Planning Committee) to provide state and local officials, as well as the public, with specific information on hazardous chemicals which are present at a facility at any time during the calendar year that equaled or exceeded the thresholds as outlined in the Community Right to Know Act.

The Chippewa County LEPC received a donation from a Tier II site which allowed for the purchase of a subscription to the online Tier II Manager. Having the Tier II Manager subscription allows Central Dispatch and City emergency responders to access all of the Tier II sites in the City of Sault Ste. Marie, and Chippewa County via the online system.  Beginning with Tier II reports submitted online with the Tier II Manager (which are due annually between January 1 and March 30th) there is no longer a requirement to mail a copy to the Chippewa County LEPC, or the City Fire Department.

It is hoped that this procedure request does not cause confusion with your annual reporting. It is believed that the changes will be well worth the convenience of not having to mail the document to any offices.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Director Michelle Robbins at Chippewa Co. Central Dispatch at (906) 495-7488.
