General Purpose

 

Under the supervision of the DPW Director, the Street Superintendent is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of City roadways and related work as designated by the DPW Director.  

 

 

Typical Duties

 

  • Effectively Respond to Citizen Complaints and Concerns.

  • Provide Excellent Customer Service and Maintain Effective Working Relationships with City Employees and Officials, and All Members of the General Public.

  • Responsible for the direct supervision of the work of DPW employees assigned to the Street Department.

  • Schedule, Organize and Direct Work Plans for Street Department Work Crews.

  • Responsible for Compliance with Federal, State and City Safety Programs and Policies.

  • Participate in hiring, training, evaluation and discipline of Street Department Employees within the Guidelines of the Labor Agreements and City Policies.

  • Develop and oversee ongoing employee training for the various equipment used and functions of the Street Department to ensure efficiency, quality and consistency of work performed.

  • Oversees Maintenance and Upkeep of:

    • Streets and Roadways

    • Curbs and Gutters

    • Ditches, Sidewalks and Alleys

    • Signage and Road Markings

    • Tree Trimming / Removal

    • Equipment and Motor Pool

  • Coordinate efforts with Water / Sewer Dept. to Resolve Surface Drainage Issues and Catch Basin Maintenance.

  • Inventory of Maintenance Materials and Parts Associated with Dept. Activities.

  • Recommends Equipment and Vehicle Purchases to Director.

  • Assists in Budget Preparation and Management.

  • Assists in Planning and Execution of Roadway Asset Management Plan.

  • Participates in Planning and Execution of 6 year Capital Outlay Plan.

  • Ensures Compliance with all State and Federal Regulations Relating to Public Works Activities.

      Attend various meetings / committees as directed by the DPW Director Both During and Outside of Regular Work Hours.

      Various office and administrative tasks.
